Cycle Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery

Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery, founded in the academic year 2023-2024, is structured as a single six-year cycle of 360 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which include frontal teaching activity, practical exercises, and clinical internship. The practical exercises and clinical internship constitute a total of 78 ECTS. The frontal teaching activity is conducted out at the Catholic University Campus "Our Lady of Good Counsel" in Tirana; the clinical teaching activity is conducted both in the departments and laboratories of the Catholic Hospital “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Tirana, and in Italy, at the “Tor Vergata” Polyclinic in Rome and other affiliated hospital facilities. The frontal teaching activity is carried out in Tirana by Italian lecturers from the University of Rome "Tor Vergata"; in fact, the study programs in Tirana perfectly match those used at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" which represents the partner university of the University "Our Lady of Good Counsel" in Tirana. Teaching is performed in English language.  Student attendance at individual courses is mandatory for at least 67% of the total hours of lessons. In consideration of the perfect overlap of the study programs of the two Universities, the degree awarded at the end of the studies is configured as a joint diploma between the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” and the University of Rome"Tor Vergata", and it is officially recognized in Italy and in Europe, demonstrating the close collaboration with the Italian university system.

Course Structure

Graduated students of the degree course in Medicine and Surgery must be equipped with the scientific bases and theoretical-practical preparation, which are necessary to exercise the medical profession. They also acquire the methodology and indispensable culture for their ongoing training and for an adequate level of professional, decision-making, and operational autonomy. For a complete education is also required a responsible ethical approach to important topics that concern the lives of people and society today as well as the ability to face the future challenges of scientific research in a medicine that continually changes and updates.  
Once he has passed the state exam and is authorized to practice the profession, the graduate in Medicine and Surgery, is able to carry out his profession as a general practitioner, in public and private clinics, hospitals and specialist centers. Activities related to the diagnosis and therapy of all organic and functional morbid states of man, as well as prevention activities, both individual and collective are object of the medical profession.

In addition to the various professional opportunities, the degree in Medicine and Surgery will allow access to specialization schools in the medical area and numerous training courses, both in Albania and in Italy. A further possibility offered to Medicine and Surgery graduates is represented by scientific research, through participation in a Research Doctorate, to be conducted in Albania or abroad and which often represents the first step towards an academic career.
