Fátima Fernandes is an architect, graduated from the Oporto School of Fine Arts (ESBAP) and holds a PhD in Theory and Practice of Architectural Design from ETSAM (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid), at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Her doctoral thesis, Architecture in the Construction of Landscape: Tools and Principles of the Projects of the International Douro (1953–1964) in Relation to the Oporto School. Her research addresses topics related to architecture and urbanism, especially regarding the influence of architecture on the construction of territorial infrastructures and the transformation of the landscape. She teaches at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP), where she has served as Director of the Architecture Program and the Architecture Department and is currently the President of the Cooperative managing the school (CESAP). She was also President of the Admissions Council of the Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese Architects Association (OARSRN). Since 1984, he has been working professionally with Michele Cannatà, carrying out architectural works and projects. Together, they are dedicated to the study and dissemination of modern and contemporary Portuguese architecture, through the publication of books, articles, and the organization of initiatives related to the field. They are frequently invited to present their works and projects at international conferences and exhibitions, several of which have been recognized by leading institutions.
